Will Recovery Be Painful?

During this time, patients will likely experience some pain and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed medication by the doctor. Other common symptoms, such as fatigue, dizziness, and low energy levels, may also occur. It is recommended that until fully recovered, activities should be limited, and physical exertion avoided.

Can I Return Home or Work After My Procedure?

Patients who have vaginal or robotic surgeries are generally able to return home the same day as their procedure, while an abdominal surgery may require and overnight stay in the hospital. All post-hysterectomy surgery patients need to ensure adequate rest and recovery immediately following their surgery, while avoiding any strenuous activity or exercise to ensure proper healing. Your doctor will give you specific instructions about when you can return to work and resume physical activities.

What Complications May Arise?

During the healing process, look out for any warning signs that could indicate a complication or infection, such as pain that does not subside with medication, fever, heavy bleeding, redness, or swelling around the incision site. If these symptoms are experienced, contact your provider immediately.
